Family and Couples Counselling

Family and Couples therapy is a type of counselling that helps family members, couples and others who care about each other to explore thoughts and emotions safely. Family and couples therapy can support loved ones to improve communication and resolve conflicts by seeking to understand each other’s experiences and views, identify and appreciate each other’s needs, build on strengths, and centre attachment. Family and couples therapy can be useful in any situation that causes stress, grief, anger or conflict including separation, disconnection. You may address specific challenges such as conflict between parents and children, the impact of substance use, separation and/or divorce, or other life changes.

Family therapy may include all family members or just those able or willing to participate. Your specific counselling plan will depend on your family's situation. Family and couples therapy sessions can deepen connections and allow you and your loved ones to enhance relationships while increasing ability to get through difficult times

Family and Couples Therapy aims to be:

  • Inclusive and respectful of the needs of each member of the family

  • Strength-based and attachment informed

  • In partnership ‘with’ loved one

  • Sensitive to diverse family structures and relationships, beliefs and cultures
